A London Shade combine the best of both worlds, you have the simplicity of the roman shade and the fullness of a balloon shade.
Another name for a London Shade is a Festoon. The shade contains two inverted pleats at the bottom which crate a shallow scoop in the center with two small tails on either side.
While most of them time these shades are seen as valances you can also make them easily to accommodate privacy.
The best part of the London type Shade is the inverted box pleat.
When you start adding box pleats you get a lot of extra fabric incorporated into the swag when the London shade is raised.
Roman shades are as well, similar to the london shades and add a dramatic look to your new bedroom window treatments.

Also the pleats add a little extra designer flair to the room because you can choose two fabrics and get a peek of the second when the London Shade is pulled up. If you’re really adventurous you can add piping along the edges and have yet another great designer look.
London Shades looks great with other drapery or even alone. Get creative and add fringe to the bottom.

Now you have gathered the shade. These shades need to be planed very differently then the regular shade. The fullness of this wonderful shade is determined by the pleats.
You can however make a deep pleat without too much drooping because of the pleats and how they contain the fullness.
Now if you want gathers you must take into consideration the fullness because if you have too much fullness you will have a bagging effect and hot the perfect London Shade silhouette.
If you’re looking for the perfect shade I would go with a full gathered shade with contract pleats, some fringe trim along with banded cornices.
This design would be kind of silly in a bathroom or any other small area, but in a large room this type of London Shade would look simply amazing.
With this shade I would recommend outside mounting. This is recommended for all shades because the London shade will start to bow in if it is closed or semi closed so be sure to add at least two inches to the width.
You can also upholster the shade to a mounting board that you cover with fabric for an extra special look.
The beauty of these luxurious shades is that they operate with little or no effort. They add so much in terms of binds and shades to the decor of the bedroom, living room or other rooms that you have in your house.
These products have a variety of fabrics and folds, the window shades are veratile!
You may need to readjust the folds when you raise or lower them but that is to be expected with any drape that has pleats.
I hope this helps you with decide on the perfect London Shade for you!
